Baumbach House Kranichfeld

Birthplace of the poet Rudolf Baumbach and place of numerous cultural events

… Behind the window panes a face laughs so hold, I would like to stay, but the car that rolls…

The approx. 350 year old former Meyengut, a half-timbered house now known as the Baumbach House, is one of the oldest buildings in Kranichfeld. On September 28, 1840, the Thuringian poet Rudolf Baumbach was born here and spent his early childhood years here.

Many of Baumbach’s poems were set to music. Who does not know it, the folk song “Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen”, by which he is remembered.

Today, the culturally and historically valuable house houses the following facilities:

– the museum with a permanent exhibition commemorating the poet and his life
– a museum café,
– the tourist information
– the town library
– the historically designed wedding room
– the senior citizens’ club

The rooms offer space for many cultural events in Kranichfeld.
